School History
Epping North PS turns 50 in 2010! Join us for our birthday celebrations. More information here.
Our school was opened in 1960 to provide a school for the newly populated area of North Epping. It was built on a former nursery and market garden. The first Principal was Clinton Quinliven.
Students from the Class of '66 (the first group to go from Kindergarten to 6th class) held their held their 40 year reunion in September 2006. Teachers John Payne and Colin Thew also attended. These ex-Epping North students reminisced about their school days and growing up in North Epping:
- playing in the swamp area before the school'
s oval was built - walking to and from school with friends
- playing marbles, kingpin, brandings and British bulldog at lunchtimes.
As children growing up in the suburb, they had fond memories of exploring the bush, swimming in Devlins Creek and billy-carting down Belinda Crescent (it'
s steep!). One ex-student recounted the time he and his mate strapped boxes and oil drums together and rafted all the way down Devlin's Creek and along the Lane Cove River. Another remembered attending a cub meeting in an old chicken shed at Jacob'
s poultry farm which bordered the back of the school (now Jacobs Close).
Internationally recognised ex-students of Epping North PS are: Shane Gould, Olympic Swimming Gold Medallist; Gareth Robinson, political journalist and broadcaster; Kate Raisin, actor; Richard Ings, Australia's first professional tennis umpire; Kylie Kwong, celebrity chef, and Brett Papworth, Rugby Union player for Australia.
The school's motto is Diligent to Learn.
